Clubs serve as a bridge, enabling students to apply what they’ve learned in class and the skills they’ve developed in school to social life.
* 8th, 9th, and 10th-grade students gain experience by participating in club activities.
* 11th and 12th-grade students take on leadership roles, such as establishing, managing, and organizing annual events for their clubs.

Clubs participate in conferences, events, and competitions both locally and internationally. Music groups, for instance, prepare for performances such as school festivals and seasonal concerts. Clubs operate outside class hours, spread across three different time slots.

Additionally, students can establish their own clubs as part of the Student Individual Project (SIP). Students interested in creating and implementing their own projects must share their ideas with the ALE coordinator. After completing the preparation process and obtaining approval, the project will be brought to life as a club the following year.

Participation in social responsibility projects is voluntary for all age groups. Through the Student Individual Project (SIP), students can propose their own social responsibility projects to the ALE coordinator. After the preparation period, these projects are approved, and students can implement them.

Açı High School Sports Program has a multi-faceted structure that supports students’ physical, mental and emotional development. The program aims to deepen students’ physical literacy by making their sports habits sustainable and to ensure that they adopt sports as a way of life. While students have the opportunity to specialize in different sports branches according to their individual interests and abilities, they also gain important life skills such as teamwork, leadership and strategic thinking.

Main goals of the sports program:

1. Lifelong Physical Activity and Health Awareness: Students are encouraged to adopt an active lifestyle and understand the positive effects of physical activity on physical and mental health.

2. Specialization in Individual and Team Sports: Students have the opportunity to develop in their chosen sport in accordance with their performance levels and interests.

3. Social and Emotional Development: Sports activities strengthen students’ social skills such as self-confidence, leadership, communication and responsibility.

Sports Branches and Activities:

High school students have the chance to specialize in different sports branches according to their individual preferences and abilities. Opened sports branches:

Basketball, Volleyball, Soccer: Activities that develop teamwork, strategic thinking, leadership, and eye-hand and hand-foot coordination skills.

Badminton, Table Tennis, Archery: Branches that enhance speed, reflexes, focus, and individual competitiveness.

Wing Chun and Pilates: Branches that improve body awareness, balance, flexibility, and mental focus.

Outdoor Sports and Cycling: Outdoor activities promoting endurance, environmental awareness, and a sense of adventure.

Billiards: A sport that develops focus, strategic thinking, and fine motor skills.

Performance and Participation in Competitions:

Students are directed to national and international official and private sports events based on their performance levels and interests. Competitions, tournaments, and sports festivals offer important opportunities for students to showcase their talents and experience sports culture more deeply.

Social Responsibility and the Social Benefits of Sports:

High school students engage in social responsibility projects that extend beyond the personal benefits of sports to contribute to society. Through sports activities, solidarity, empathy, and social awareness are developed.

This comprehensive program supports students’ physical and social development, helping them establish lifelong habits of sports and healthy living. The skills learned during their high school years strengthen them as individuals for both university and adult life.

The Turkish Language and Literature Department at Açı High School aims to nurture students who are proficient in their native language, read widely, question, think critically, create, and express themselves effectively. In line with our school’s innovative, sustainable, and learner-centered educational philosophy, our lessons are designed as learning experiences that enrich students’ intellectual, cultural, and artistic perspectives while connecting literature to life.

In our lessons, students read selected works from Turkish and world literature and engage with them through in-depth analysis from different perspectives, considering their historical, social, and cultural contexts. Students take an active role in the learning process by asking questions about texts, developing interpretations, comparing different readings, and expressing their ideas in original ways.

Cultural and artistic excursions, museum and exhibition visits, theatre performances, and other arts-related activities are also an integral part of our academic program. Students discover literature not only through books and in the classroom, but also through the city they live in, works of art, museums, stages, and different aspects of everyday life. In this way, they experience and develop a deeper understanding of the strong connections between literature, life, history, society, and other art forms.

Our lessons are aligned with the student-centered, skills-based, and holistic educational approach of the Ministry of National Education’s Türkiye Yüzyılı Maarif Model. Artificial intelligence is also integrated into our learning processes as a purposeful and responsible learning tool that supports reading, listening/viewing, speaking, and writing skills. Students use AI to explore texts from different perspectives, develop alternative interpretations, and review their own work, while also developing the ability to question information, evaluate its accuracy, and use technology ethically and productively.

One of the fundamental aims of our department is to nurture individuals who know and value their own culture, history, literature, and language; embrace universal values; respect differences; and recognize their responsibility to contribute positively to the society in which they live. Because for us, literature is not merely a subject to be studied; it is a means of understanding people, society, the past, and the world, expressing ourselves, and contributing meaningfully to the world we live in.

The goal of mathematics courses is to help students develop abstract thinking, reasoning, and problem-solving skills necessary for life, allowing them to recognize and utilize their full potential in a learning environment free from rote memorization.

Various mathematics programs are implemented to support students’ higher education in Turkey and abroad.

History

The primary objective of the History Department is to enable students to view historical events and phenomena from a holistic perspective. In line with 21st-century skills, the goal of fostering global citizenship, and sustainability objectives, the department aims to help students analyze the political developments and issues occurring worldwide, along with their economic, cultural, and sociological impacts, as a unified whole. Rather than viewing history as a continuous timeline, the program aims to evaluate historical leaps, transformations, and processes of change within their historical context.

Philosophy

Philosophy develops students’ careful, creative, and critical thinking skills. The goal is to help students transfer these skills into daily life, respect diverse opinions, be open-minded, not fear asking questions, and develop a high degree of social awareness.

Geography

Geography classes aim to help Açı students understand and embrace the spatial, natural, and cultural values of their immediate surroundings, their country, and the world.

As global citizens imbued with the values instilled by Açı Schools, our students develop an awareness of the relationship between humans and nature, recognize the world’s challenges, find effective solutions to these challenges, and carry forward the skills they have acquired into their future lives through sustainable practices.

As the Science Department, our goal is to educate individuals who can adapt scientific research methods and processes to their lives, establish connections between the concepts they have learned and their daily lives, and relate, analyze, and interpret what they have learned across different disciplines. In line with this philosophy, we aim to help our students maintain their curiosity about their surroundings and the world, adapt to changing global conditions, and become lifelong learners equipped with 21st-century skills.

Program Objectives:

In line with our department’s philosophy, the skills we aim to instill in our students are as follows:

1. Ability to apply the steps of the scientific method
2. Ability to conduct courses aimed at developing 21st-century skills
3. Ability to develop laboratory work techniques and practical skills, and to use measurement tools correctly
4.  Conducting literature reviews on a given topic, comprehending and interpreting information, and expressing it in their own words
5. Keeping up with developments in science and technology
6. Using information technology in the classroom
7. Being sensitive to environmental issues and developing scientific projects on these topics

English

The English Language Curriculum at Açı High School is designed in alignment with the Turkish Ministry of National Education (MEB) framework and enriched with international standards that aim to develop students’ academic, cultural, and critical thinking skills.

Within the program, students not only focus on language acquisition but also explore the historical, cultural, geographical, and philosophical dimensions of the literary texts they study. At each grade level, they engage with a variety of literary genres—including novels, short stories, plays, and poems—conducting thematic, contextual, and character analyses. These studies are supported by projects designed to strengthen their research, presentation, and written expression skills.

Throughout this process, students also become familiar with the content and structure of international examinations such as IGCSE, IELTS, and SAT, in order to enhance their language proficiency and adapt to international academic standards.

The overarching goal of this program is to help every student progress at their own pace, achieve an advanced level of English communication and reasoning skills, take an active role in academic studies, and build a strong foundation for their future learning experiences.

French

Students target the DELF B2 exam by the end of high school. For students planning to study abroad, the AP French option is also offered.

Spanish

Students target the DELE B1 exam by the end of high school.

Building upon the technology skills acquired in primary and middle school, the high school ICT curriculum is structured in alignment with the Turkish Ministry of National Education (MEB) outcomes and Cambridge IGCSE standards to help students acquire both national standards and international competencies.

In the 9th and 10th grades, during 2 hours of weekly instruction, students develop their knowledge and skills in fundamental technology, artificial intelligence literacy, digital design, and programming. Additionally, practices aimed at fostering digital citizenship and 21st-century skills are incorporated in line with the Common Sense Digital Citizenship curriculum. Lessons take place in laboratories equipped with Apple computers; students’ learning processes are supported through digital documents, practical assignments, and interdisciplinary projects.

The ICT course is enriched through interdisciplinary work conducted with subjects such as mathematics, biology, physics, chemistry, literature, history, and philosophy. As part of these efforts, students are encouraged to create creative and functional digital products by connecting knowledge gained across various disciplines with technology.

Accordingly, the program aims to enable students to use technology consciously, safely, and responsibly; identify and effectively utilize digital tools and applications suited to their needs; and enhance their creative problem-solving, critical thinking, collaboration, and digital production skills.
